Ah, evaluations! The bread and butter of a school psychologist's life! Sometimes though, it is difficult to build rapport and gain participation in the assessment with the student. At other times, it's difficult to meaningfully interpret the assessment results and determine the best starting point for interventions, especially for behavior concerns. We've been there and can assist you in overcoming these challenges!

We know data collection can sometimes be overwhelming, but the challenge often lies in gaining staff buy-in in the data collection process. After all, as school psychologists, we can do anything, but we can’t do everything. We need staff to assist in collecting meaningful student data. So, whether you need assistance in creating easy-to-use data sheets for individual students, need to problem- solve staff resistance or would like help developing data systems for programmatic needs, we have you covered. 

Training staff in understanding and implementing behavior intervention plans is essential to creating lasting behavior change for our students. However, staff often have various skill sets and different training needs, all of which we should consider when providing said training. We can assist you in creating training tools, implementation checklists, and determining which components to teach first and why.

Inclusion and transition of students can present many challenges, including staff’s readiness and ability to effectively support them. We have a great deal of experience supporting staff in transitioning students between educational settings and can guide you through the process to include: behavior plan or instructional strategy training, data collection tools, reinforcement systems, and more.

Collaborating with educators who think suspension is the only option can be a challenge. We know that forty plus years of research has demonstrated that zero-tolerance disciplinary procedures provide little-to-no behavioral improvement and are often disproportionately applied to students of color and racial minority. The true difficulty is moving beyond sharing the research to actually implementing alternatives to discipline. We’ve spent years working with some of the toughest students and implementing alternative strategies! We can provide you with evidence-based alternatives to suspension which will help your team shift to proactively teaching missing skills and setting the school environment up to promote alternative behaviors in order to prevent the school to prison pipeline.
